Food for Fuel—Stupid and Unjust! Our local political leaders are delighted to see high corn prices and a large corn to fuel facility just a county away. Please keep in mind that every tank of food derived fuel you burn deprives one human of enough food to survive for a year. God is kind. There is enough food for everyone. Fair wages for all and enough to eat is a political problem created by politicians who study war not the Bible. Starvation is a handy political tool. Hunger and starvation of the working poor and disabled is increasingly widespread in Historic Monroe as our grain crops are diverted to make automobile fuel. Farmers support both subsidies and triple corn prices for converting food into motor fuel. The farmers have our sorry politicians in their pocket. Motorists who can afford to drive and benefit from short sighted government subsidies may wonder why the hot breakfasts at motor hotels taste like road kill—it likely is road kill. The price of meat, eggs, cereal products, flour, and milk is beyond affordability because grains need for feed is more profitable to convert to motor fuel. A partial solution is for the zoning code in Monroe to be changed to allow chickens and hogs to be raised for meat and eat insects as well as table scraps in every neighborhood. Our one sided trade with China is quickly making us a third world country. Our imprudent politicians need to let the free market rectify this by stopping subsidies that let the rich drive at expense of the poor. Our loving Savior has provided enough land to grow sufficient food for each person. It is simply wrong to cause starvation so a few can ride in luxury and pollute the planet in the process. Each of us must let our misguided political leaders understand the magnitude of their blunder.
